The expedition
Stand where history still speaks.
You have seen the pyramids in photographs. Heard the stories of Kings, Queens, temples and tombs. Now experience Egypt for yourself, from its monumental sites to the everyday moments between them, with the context to understand more of what you are seeing.
Some history is meant to be experienced, not just read about.

The timing
Egypt for the Abu Simbel Solar Festival
Egypt 2027 runs 19–29 October 2027. These dates were chosen deliberately to position the expedition at Abu Simbel for the Solar Festival on 22 October.
At sunrise during the solar alignment, sunlight penetrates deep into the Great Temple of Ramesses II and reaches the inner sanctuary. The phenomenon occurs twice each year and is traditionally associated with significant dates in the life of Ramesses II, commonly described in relation to his birthday and coronation.
The group stays at Abu Simbel the previous night specifically to be there for the morning event. Within the wider Nile Valley expedition, this becomes one of its defining experiences.
22 October · Abu Simbel
The Abu Simbel Solar Festival. Twice a year, sunlight reaches the innermost chamber of the Great Temple. Egypt 2027 is built around being there for it.
The experience
History feels differentwhen you're standing inside it.
Egypt asks you to look closer. Across eleven days, the expedition brings together extraordinary places, thousands of years of history and the context to make sense of what you are experiencing.

01
Place
Stand where the stories happened. From pyramid fields to vast temple complexes and the landscapes of the Nile, this expedition puts you in the places that have occupied imaginations for generations.

02
History
Go beyond what you can see. The monuments are only part of the story. Historical context and original educational material help connect the places, people and ideas encountered along the way.

03
Perspective
Give it time to sink in. Some places need more than a photograph and a quick explanation. The expedition creates room to look, listen, question and appreciate the scale of what is in front of you.

04
Discovery
Keep discovering. Egypt reveals itself in layers. Across ancient sites, living culture and the journey between them, each part of the expedition adds something new to the picture.

Beyond the monuments
See more when you understand what you're looking at.
Egypt can be overwhelming in scale. Temples, tombs, symbols, stories and thousands of years of history can be difficult to take in when you are encountering them for the first time. That is why the learning begins before you arrive.
Before the expedition, you will join live presentations and Q&A sessions designed to introduce the history, places and ideas you will encounter along the way. There will be space to ask questions, build context and arrive in Egypt with a deeper understanding of what you are about to experience.
Once you are there, that learning continues through an audiovisual system you can access throughout the expedition. As you move through the sites, supplementary material will help provide context for what you are seeing and connect individual places to the wider story.
Not a classroom. Not a lecture tour. Just the context to help what you are seeing mean more.

Egypt with The SoulFam
We know this journey.
Since 2017, The SoulFam has coordinated more than 25 journeys through Egypt, bringing together Black travellers from around the world for both intimate private trips and larger group experiences. Over the years, we have developed seasonally adapted journeys around this same route, returning to many of the places that form the heart of Egypt 2027 and continuing to shape how we experience and share them. Our focus has remained consistent: creating space for Black travellers to experience the ancient excellence of Egypt for themselves, with the time, context and community to take it in.

Where you'll stay
Four stays. Each with its own sense of place.
Where you stay is part of the experience. Across Cairo, Abu Simbel and Luxor, we have chosen smaller, characterful properties that give the expedition a different rhythm as it moves through Egypt, with spaces to rest between the days spent exploring.
These are the confirmed accommodation selections for Egypt 2027. Occasionally circumstances outside our control may require a property to change. If that happens, we will arrange a suitable alternative.

Questions, answered plainly
Is Egypt 2027 available to book now?
Yes. Egypt 2027 is open for booking when this version of The SoulFam website goes live. Your place is secured by paying the required deposit in your chosen currency.
What does the expedition price include?
Your expedition includes shared accommodation, 2–3 meals per day, scheduled site entrance fees, curated cultural experiences, itinerary-required private ground transport, airport transfers, included Nile cruises, experienced hosts, pre-trip presentations and Q&A sessions, access to the on-trip audiovisual learning system, general flight timing guidance and visa guidance. All domestic and international flights, travel insurance, visa fees, alcohol, tips, personal spending and optional paid experiences are not included.
Do I need to share a room?
Shared accommodation is included as standard, but you can request a private room for the entire expedition for an additional fee, subject to availability. The figure is shown in the Price chapter once its acknowledgements are complete.
Do I need to arrange my own transport within Egypt?
Private ground transport, airport transfers and included Nile cruises are organised by TheSoulFam. You arrange and pay for every flight independently, including the Cairo–Aswan and Luxor–Cairo domestic flights shown in the itinerary.
Are the rest days completely free?
They are deliberately slower days with room to choose how you spend your time. An included Nile cruise is available on both rest days. You can also rest, explore independently or choose additional experiences organised by The SoulFam, including massages, ATV riding and hot-air ballooning. Optional experiences are paid for separately.
Do I need to know a lot about ancient Egypt before coming?
Not at all. The educational side of the expedition is designed to help you build that context. Before travelling, you'll join live presentations and Q&A sessions introducing the places, history and ideas you'll encounter. During the expedition, you'll also have access to audiovisual material that supplements what you're experiencing at the sites.
Will someone help me with my visa?
Yes. Visa guidance is available as part of your preparation. If you'd prefer additional assistance, The SoulFam also offers a paid visa service. Your visa and any associated government fees remain separate from the expedition price.
Can you help me plan my flights?
We can share general route and timing guidance, but TheSoulFam does not sell or purchase flights or receive the airfare. Every traveller books and pays an airline or external booking agency directly.
Can I do activities that aren't part of the itinerary?
Yes. There is deliberately free time built into the Luxor stay. The SoulFam can organise additional experiences such as massages, ATV riding and hot-air ballooning. These are optional and paid for separately by the traveller. If you choose additional tickets or special-access experiences while visiting a scheduled site, those are also at your own expense.
Could the itinerary or accommodation change?
The itinerary and accommodation have been planned for Egypt 2027, but individual arrangements may occasionally need to change. If circumstances require an adjustment, we may alter the order or details of the itinerary or substitute accommodation as necessary while maintaining the overall expedition.
Is there a minimum age for Egypt 2027?
There is no minimum age for the expedition. Children are welcome to travel with their parent or guardian, with participation left to the parent's discretion. Egypt 2027 is an active journey with regular travel between locations, full days of exploration and time spent moving through historical sites. Younger children may find the pace more demanding than older children, so we encourage parents to consider their child's individual needs, energy levels and comfort with this style of travel before booking.
Is this for you?
